The University of Pennsylvania's School of Design offers an intensive four-week summer program in art and architecture geared towards Pre-College and High School students interested in pursuing related academic majors. Students choose one major Fine Arts class (9-12 every day) and two two-week minor classes from 1-4 in the afternoon. Students choosing the architecture major pursue architecture all day and elect no minor classes. Our summer major courses are: Our two-week minor courses are: *Screenwriting is an afternoon four-hour class for four week. Screenwriters must also take a Fine Arts Major morning class. Working with students from around the world and Penn faculty you will build your portfolios, experiment with new disciplines, and develop and hone new and existing skills. The curriculum, taught by Penn faculty and supported by majors in the fields, is taken from the regular course offerings at the University. It is sequenced and paced to match diverse learners and learning modes and is appropriate to the age and experience of the student body. Classes are small, allowing for individualization within projects. Students will attend their classes in state of the art buildings featuring high tech digital and electronic imaging facilities, professionally equipped photography laboratories and bright, spacious drawing, painting, architecture, sculpture and ceramics studios. Whether you aspire to better prepare yourself for college admissions, determine your level of interest in new visual arenas, or simply want to experience a university environment for four weeks, the Penn Summer Studios for high school students will educate and enrich you. |
